DIY Church Wedding: Sara and Steve

I am so excited to be posting the wedding of our BFF/partners in crime Sara and Steve Lucero! These guys are seriously the coolest, most fun, best people we know and we are so blessed to call them friends. We got to see the beginning of their relationship and see it develop (very quickly!) into full blown LOVE. When you know, you know, and these guys knew right away. They are the yin to each other’s yang. Steve is the worship leader for the youth group at High Desert Church and Sara is an awesome wedding photographer. Steve is quietly warm until you get to know him and then he’s quite hilarious and Sara is an outgoing, artsy, goofy girl you feel you have known for years and can talk to about anything. So yeah, we’re pretty stoked that God brought these guys around when he did because we got to plan our weddings together and hang out and laugh way too much all the time!

And plan a rad wedding they did! Sara had a very specific vision of what she wanted her wedding to be and executed it brilliantly. She managed to turn a modern church into something quite beautiful and I think brides will be quite inspired to see what she pulled off. She even managed to turn the dreaded church gym into a darling reception! I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

The day started with getting ready, of course. I loved Sara’s dress! It was a linen-like silk that had the most gorgeous texture—and pockets!

Pretty much my favorite shot of a bride getting her make-up done ever. Many thanks to Martha Davenport of Martha Does Makeup for doing a perfect job.

Sara! You’re adorable. That bridal party isn’t too shabby either.
Okay you’re not just adorable, you’re beautiful!
And a studly groom?? Our job was easy! I loved Tim’s pictures of Steve getting ready to see his bride.

I say this every time and I’ll say it again, I love First Looks.
Steve couldn’t even look at Sara at first. Too gorgeous!

Happiness:

Beautiful.

We moved from our First Look location to down town Victorville to take some photos in a building that had been destroyed in a fire. The building, a historical landmark, was torn down just days later! We are so excited to have gotten photos inside.

I loved the girls’ patterned, black tights!
The wedding ceremony opened with a sweet song sung by another talented lady, Jessica Mariano (our wedding photographer!).
Followed by a beautiful dance by Amanda and violin by Steve’s sister.

And this my friends is what Sara’s vision looked like brought to life. I love the drama of the flag banners and the unique positioning of the bridal party using unusual groupings and chairs. Steve built the awesome fence they used as a back-drop and they tied an actual knot around a few of the posts during the ceremony. Sara also hand-crafted each of the bridesmaids bouquets out of fabric!

Note: their officiant decided to take and tweet the first official pic of them as husband and wife. So cool.

Their reception was filled with sweet DIY touches and handmade baked goods by all of their family members.

Rather than having the traditional toast, the couple opted to have each member of their bridal party share a short story about Sara or Steve.
The first dance started out as many others do…
…but took a sudden turn when Just Bieber’s “Baby Baby” came on and the bride and groom surprised everyone with a HILARIOUS choreographed dance.
See how cool these guys are?!
Showing off the bling.
Honeymoon bound!

Sara and Steve, we love you guys so much. We can’t wait to hang out more and look forward to growing old with you. Does that sound creepy?

Ebell Club Wedding: Tara and Paul

I met Paul a few years ago in photo class. Who would have thought that I’d be photographing his wedding to then girlfriend Tara all these years later and that our professor, Max Gerber, would be officiating? Well I could not be more pleased that they asked Tim and I to photograph their wedding day!

We had a blast with them at their engagement shoot so we were expecting a great time at their wedding and they certainly did not disappoint. This wedding was the perfect blend of classy, cool, and fun.

It was held at the Ebell Club in Long Beach, California. The Ebell Club originated in 1924 as an exclusive women’s social club. It is a gorgeous building featuring “Churrigueresque-style architecture” and was purchased by Liz Palmer in 2006 after she got married there and realized what a gem it was. She is now the awesome owner and director of events at the Ebell Club and does such a fantastic job! It was truly a pleasure to get to work with her! Paul and Tara also had the amazingness of Robert Poff of Station Identification Entertainment as their deejay and I just have to say he did a spectacular job. He made their day flow smoothly and kept everyone entertained at the same time.

Paul and Tara, your wedding left me feeling so lucky to be able to do what I do. It’s people like you that I dream of working with time and time again in the future. And your love for each other is so sweet to see. As Collin said in his PERFECT toast to you both, when people think of Tara they think of Paul and when people think of Paul they think of Tara-and thats a great thing. You guys just fit together like peanut butter and jelly.

Champagne anyone?

Ever the marine, Paul had his things perfectly in order. The cufflinks were a family heirloom as well as the shoes and dog tags which belonged to his grandfather who was also a marine.

Tim loved that Paul uses a safety razor.

Paul and his brother Colin putting on their Jr Detective badges.

Scotch anyone?

Tara’s dress was so beautiful and full of ruffles!

I really love this photo.

Gotta love a bride who rocks Tom’s. Comfortable, cute, and for a good cause.

Tara, you are STUNNING.

My favorite thing, the First Look!

Don’t they look like royalty?

Their dog, the famous Lucy “Goose” Bennett played a special role in their day.

Paul’s father, Bob Bennett (a classic Christian musician), played a song during the ceremony.

Aside from Tim’s first dance with his mother, this was the coolest mother-son dance I have ever seen!

How many photographers out there can say they photographed the groom cutting the cupcake with a sword? I can!

This little girl was determined!

Paul. In a nutshell.

I was really excited and suprised to see that the grooms dad is BOB BENNETT and he popped up in one of the photos. I know who that is. I have his cassette tapes (when cassette tapes were “in”) Wow – What a great voice. Besides that… the photo’s of the wedding are beautiful. Once again, good job!

Vintage Carnival Wedding

I am extremely excited to share with you my very first styled shoot which was styled by the amazing Kaleb Norman James Willis. Kaleb has such vision and talent that is going to take him so far. He designed all of the florals for our wedding which was also featured on Engaged and Inspired (part 2). Please be sure to click the links and check out Kaleb’s beautiful work!

After we decided Kaleb was going to be doing the florals for our wedding we decided that we needed to do some styled shoots together before he returned to his home in Seattle. Kaleb’s vision for this shoot was a vintage old world carnival wedding. He spent months collecting and crafting each carefully selected piece. From the flowers, to the mid 1800s Avon glassware, to the desserts bar, to the signs, every detail was thought out. I think it will be easy to see that Kaleb is a genius with all things wedding and design!

We had two amazing models, Kristy and Ryan, who were total troopers when the mosquitos started to flock to us. They did get plenty of delicious sweet treats although I’m not sure if that outweighs the bug bites? ;) I also owe a huge thank you to the lovely Dee Wood for allowing us to borrow one of her amazing vintage gowns for the shoot. It really looked perfect! And of course another ginormous thank you to Aubrey for doing a fabulous job on Kristy’s hair and make-up. She looked gorgeous!

And without further adieu here are the pictures:

Photography: Jessica Pressley
Styling, Florals, Overall Awesomeness: Kaleb Norman James Willis
Make-up and Hair: Aubrey of Livelle
Dress: Borrowed from Dee Wood

County Fair Photo Session: Daniel and Sarina

All the way back in May we went to the San Bernardino County Fair with our good friends Daniel and Sarina for some photo fun. Shortly after that Tim and I got married and thus the backed up blog posts. But they are all on their way my friends!

The fair has always been a place that reminds me of fun times with my family. We would go pretty much every year and I have some great memories of my dad there. He would always win us something from one of the fair games, wether it was something we really wanted or not-like one of those mirrors with Elvis on it or a big stuffed animal.

This day was filled with lights flashing, rides spinning, and the smell of funnel cake wafting through the air. Daniel and Sarina both showed up looking great and ready for action. Daniel is a photographer so its always interesting shooting one of your peers. Be sure to check out his work here.

Daniel and Sarina, we had so much fun hanging out with you at the fair! I love that we have become better friends and look forward to more of that. I hope you guys enjoy the photos!

I must amend this post to give credit to Jessica Cruz who did Sarina’s hair. She did an amazing job and has a very bright future as a hair artist. You can connect with her via Facebook here.

Horsethief Canyon Park Engagement: Alex and Janae

Getting to photograph two beautiful people in love like Alex and Janae never gets old. They are highschool sweethearts you could say and have been together for several years. They are adorable, playful, and sweet together and we can not wait for their wedding this fall! We had a lovely evening with them in beautiful Horsethief Canyon Park in San Dimas. Here are some of my favorite shots, enjoy!

Sidenote- Alex and Janae as it turns out are hardcore fans of rivaling team USC and UCLA so we had to take a fun shot of them in their team shirts =)

The end.
